Yoga

DOT MCKEEN has been practicing Yoga for many years. She is certified in Iyengar style yoga with Kim Valerie of YOGAspirit and Linda Rado of Yoga on the Ball. Dot has studied Svaroopa yoga with Rama Berch for the Fibromyalgia/chronic pain student. In addition, Dot has completed the Laughter Yoga Leader Training Course under Dr. Madan Kataria and participates in the Wakefield Laughter Club in Massachusetts.
Dot brings to her classes a heart of gold, compassion and a spiritual sense of healing. Her classes employ the use of props, such as belts, pillows, blankets, wood blocks, sand bags, chairs and physio balls. With the use of supports, the student can gain a sense of awareness in motion and in stillness. The use of props in a yoga practice allows the student to soften the muscles, move into the stretches easily creating flexibility and encourages students to see beyond their limitations. With the support, the body can move in subtle ways creating new openings and the student can linger longer in a position allowing the body to release and realign.
Dot uses meditation and guided imagery to bring you to a state of total relaxation. Her classes are designed for beginners/gentle and moderate ability level. They all have a restorative focus and are good for pain management.

Pilates

Dot McKeen is certified through the National Endurance & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA) as a Pilates instructor. In Dot's classes, the student will discover the use of a physioball and a small pilates ball to build superb abdominal strength. Based on the teachings of the Joseph Pilates method, this is a unique exercise method for building long, sculpted muscles, a strong back and abdominal core. The exercise balls targets underutilized muscles, recruiting both deep and superficial abdominal muscle fibers to give rapid results. This method is by far safer and more comfortable way to train the abdominal muscles without aggravating the lower back, neck and shoulder area. This is a mat class in which all the exercises and postures will be done on the floor. In the class you will also learn proper breathing techniques, stretching exercises to warm-up the muscles and restorative postures to relax and unwind. This class is suitable for all levels as Dot will demonstrate beginner, intermediate and advanced exercises and the student will work at a level that is comfortable or challenging for you.

Zumba Fitness®

Dot became certified as a ZUMBA Basic and Gold Fitness® instructor and it is a great workout. The ZUMBA FITNESS® program is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements. It combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. The cardio-based dance movements are easy-to-follow steps that include body sculpting, which target areas such as gluteus, legs, arms, core abdominals and the most important muscle in the body - the heart. Previous dance experience is not necessary and it is instructed with a party-like atmosphere for all levels of students to enjoy. Young or old, come join the party!!!!!

Laughter Yoga Club
Come join the fun and laugh away your stress! Discover Laughter (Hasya) Yoga and join a group of "giggling gurus" and experience unconditional group laughter techniques based on ancient yoga practice. A daily laughter exercise increases oxygen levels in the body and releases endorphins (feel-good hormones) from the brain cells and promotes an overall sense of well-being. Laughter helps to reduce inhibitions, increase self-confidence and creates a healthy attitude. Deep breathing and neck and shoulder stretching exercises help remove stiffness and pain resulting from stress and a sedentary lifestyle. Laughter is therapeutic and is one of the easiest types of meditation which promotes instant relaxation. Join Dot McKeen, RYT and Certified Laughter Leader in this joyful healing experience.
